Art
The Art field has increasingly become, highly esoteric and inaccessible to most. The creation of visual images has become the prerogative of a select few, understood completely by an even more select few.
Celebrate Bandra, through its Art discipline, seeks to bridge this gap to an extent, by providing a non competitive and non judgmental platform, inviting the participation of residents of this suburb and beyond. The events ensure that our basic credo 'People Coming Together' is followed in body and spirit, with people of all ages enthusiastically, some for the first time, expressed themselves in mediums they would have otherwise never used.
Bandra Residents and students from Bandra schools proudly point out their bit of contribution in the murals painted at the Reclamation Promenade, the entrance gates of the Bandstand promenade and the Stanislaus School wall. This segment has also insisted on the involvement of underprivileged children in art camps- be it the painting of murals or art workshops. Art Colleges Students have also joined in the fun. Rolls of paper were painted upon by them and displayed at the promenades' prosceniums' edges. The Traffic Police from the Bandra chowky were delighted to be given an opportunity to paint pennants during the 2005 fest and some confessed later that the exercise had been relaxing! What more could a community festival offer to a segment of society which is so overworked!
This year's Art initiatives promise to be even more exciting.
Here are some pictures of the wall Art at Bandra Band Stand. The paintings are by youngsters, directed by Bandra's famous artist - Anand Mohan Naik.
